Why do you want to be in this program and why are you excited to be a part of it?
I have been teaching for twenty years and for most of those years I have always felt that I have learned and grown as a teacher every year. The past two or three years, I have seemed to reach a plateau. I didn’t want to spend the last third (or half!) of my teaching career on that plateau.
What qualities does a teacher leader possess that you would like to develop within yourself by the end of the program?
As a teacher, I have great rapport with my students and I am able to make great changes in their thinking about physics. A teacher leader is able to do the same things with other teachers and administrators within his/her local or even district area.
What is a current issue in K-12 science education that you are interested in helping to solve?
- Integrating technology usefully into the classroom/lab
- Helping students develop conceptual understanding in physics
- Teaching students how to have discourse about scientific processes in a “Scientific” way
